PCX 125 or NMAX 125?

The Honda PCX 125 is the quieter, more comfortable city scooter. The Yamaha NMAX 125 sits more upright and feels keener in corners. Both are 125 cc automatics in the A1 / B class. There is no single winner: pick PCX for daily comfort and tank range, NMAX for a sportier feel and, in many markets, a lower used price.

The table below is the 2026 decision snapshot. Power and weight change by year. Verify advertised hp against the manual and the title. PCX 150/160 and NMAX 155 are out of scope.

Which scooter uses less fuel?

Both sit around 2.0–2.8 L/100 km in city use. Tire pressure, load, and stop-start beat brand. 0.3 bar low heats the belt on either bike. “NMAX sips less” is not a manual line.

The PCX tank is larger on most years, so you stop less often at the same L/100 km. Tank size is not economy. Measure with brim-to-brim fills.

Which is better two-up?

Two-up, the PCX 125 usually offers a kinder seat and floorboards. The NMAX is usable, not as soft on long rides. Two-up shortens belt life on both. Use the loaded tire-pressure line in hills.

Shorter riders must put both feet down before buying. Test a full stop, a hill launch, and two-up seating.

Is maintenance actually cheaper on one?

Oil volume is small on both, typically 6,000 km or 12 months. Belt, final-drive oil, coolant, and brake fluid are separate clocks. “Honda is expensive, Yamaha is cheap” does not come from the oil litre. Tires, belt labour, and dealer packages do.

Belts last 20,000–40,000 km by use. Replacing the belt and leaving glazed rollers kills the new belt on both brands.

  • Oil: small fill, 6,000 km / 12 month band
  • Belt: inspect, typically 20,000–40,000 km
  • Final drive: often ~2 years
  • Brake fluid: ~2 years
  • Coolant: often ~3 years

Used: PCX or NMAX?

Used PCX prices stay firmer because it is the volume Honda. NMAX listings are plentiful; haggling is often easier. Price is not service quality. Oil, belt, final drive, and crash history decide.

Check the odometer, under-seat moisture, tire DOT date, and CVT cover screws. A freshly opened cover with an old belt is a discount item. Courier use eats belts and pads on both.

Who should buy which?

Buy the PCX 125 for 20–60 km city days, frequent two-up, a larger tank, and a quiet ride. Buy the NMAX 125 for a more upright stance, keener cornering, and a lower asking price. Both work as a first scooter. Decide after a 20-minute test, not a hp screenshot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I buy a PCX 125 or an NMAX 125?

PCX 125 for comfort, tank, and two-up. NMAX 125 for a keener stance and, often, a lower used price. Both are 125 cc automatics. Do not buy on hp alone.

Is the NMAX faster than the PCX?

The NMAX often feels livelier because of stance and 13-inch tires. Real speed gap in 50–70 km/h city traffic is small. Restrictions on the title can erase a brochure claim.

Which belt dies first?

Use, not brand. Two-up, hills, wrong tires, and hard launches can finish a belt before 20,000 km. Solo and correct pressure often pass 30,000 km.

Which is better for courier work?

Both eat belts and pads in courier use. PCX gives tank and comfort, NMAX agility. Add belt and tire cost to the purchase price.

Which uses less fuel?

Rider and pressure matter more than badge. The PCX tank is usually larger, so you fill less often, which is not the same as lower L/100 km.

Does this include PCX 160 or NMAX 155?

No. Those siblings change power, tires, and price. This article is the 125 class. Read displacement on the title.
