Motorcycle Oil Capacity Chart: Popular Models (Liters)
Motorcycle oil capacity chart in liters for popular bikes: MT-07, MT-03, PCX 125, NMAX, CB650R, Z900 and more. With vs without filter, plus level checks.
Manual first, chart second
Values below are common owner-manual / maker references for frequently searched models. Year, market, and revisions can change capacity. Confirm your own manual or chassis label before pouring.
A filter change usually needs more oil. Fill slightly under capacity, then finish with the dipstick or sight glass.
Scooters and 125–160 class
Small scooters often take under 1 L; overfilling is easy. Check level on flat ground after a short warm-up.
- Honda PCX 125 (recent gens): service fill ~0.8 L; dry / full ~0.9 L
- Yamaha NMAX 125: typically ~0.9 L band for a change (verify manual)
- Honda Grom / Monkey-class 125: ~0.9–1.0 L depending on filter
Naked / middleweight reference (with filter)
‘With filter’ figures are typical manual numbers for oil + filter service. Oil-only changes are often 0.2–0.4 L less.
- Yamaha MT-03 (~321 cc): without filter ~1.80 L; with filter ~2.10 L
- Yamaha MT-07 (~689 cc): without filter ~2.30 L; with filter ~2.60 L
- Kawasaki Ninja 400 / Z400: with filter ~2.3 L band
- Kawasaki Z650 / Ninja 650: with filter ~3.0 L band
- Honda CB650R / CBR650R: with filter ~3.7 L band
- Kawasaki Z900: with filter ~4.0 L band
- Honda CB500 / CBR500 class: with filter ~3.0–3.2 L band (confirm year)
Adventure / big-bore note
Africa Twin-class and large ADV / GT bikes often sit in the 4–5 L band. Buy oil + filter with a little spare; do not keep opened jugs for years.
How to read the level
Warm briefly, shut down, wait a few minutes. Hold the bike upright and level (sidestand lean lies). Many dipstick manuals want the stick rested, not screwed in; sight-glass bikes target MIN–MAX.
Step-by-step oil change: Motorcycle Oil Change Guide: Steps, Specs, Mistakes. Viscosity and JASO MA/MA2 still come from the manual.
Log liters and filter part numbers
Once you capture the correct liters and OEM / aftermarket filter code, the next service is fast.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much less without a filter change?
Often 0.2–0.4 L. MT-07 example: 2.30 L oil-only vs 2.60 L with filter.
Is overfilling bad?
Yes. It can stress seals and crankcase breathing. Drain the excess.
Is a 1 L bottle enough for a scooter?
For most 125 scooters, yes, with leftover. Still finish on the dipstick; an empty bottle is not a level.
Where is oil grade in this chart?
This article is capacity-focused. Grade (10W-40, JASO MA2) is in your manual. Oil change guide: Motorcycle Oil Change Guide: Steps, Specs, Mistakes
