Transport options

Open trailer, enclosed trailer, van / truck bed. Distance, weather, theft risk, and budget decide. Enclosed / pro shipping lowers stress on long hauls.

Loading

Secure the ramp, get a spotter, low gear / slow. Use soft softs (fork / bar protection) before ratchets touch paint or seals.

  • Front-wheel chock
  • Do not crush fork seals with over-tight straps
  • Symmetric side straps, no slack sway
  • Keep light load on the rear so it cannot bounce unloaded

Fuel, battery, fluids

Some shippers / ferries limit fuel. Check battery terminals; leaks can get a load refused. Wash guide: How to Wash a Motorcycle Safely

Paperwork

Title, ID, insurance, shipping contract, damage photos before loading. VIN note: Motorcycle VIN / Chassis Number Check When Buying

Arrival

Loosen straps in order; do not tip the bike. Inspect for soft damage / scratches. Tools help: Motorcycle Tool Kit Essentials: Road and Garage

Frequently Asked Questions

Load solo?

Possible with ramp + chock + practice. Get help the first time.

Soft straps or chains?

Protected soft ratchets are kinder to paint. Chains scratch frames.

Transport on the center stand?

Front chock + straps are usually more stable. The stand alone is not enough.

Air freight?

Crate, fuel drain, and airline rules are a different world; ask early.
