When are Ténéré 700 valves due?
EU charts measure valve clearance at 40,000 km. The CP2 uses a cam chain. Adjustment is buckets and shims, often cams out. That is not a scooter belt job. Many bikes stay in range at 40,000 km. Measure anyway, engine cold.
The engine family is shared with the MT-07. The airbox and dirt are not. Sharing oil DNA does not share filter life. If the tick changes after dirt, do not wait for 40,000 km.
Should I shorten oil intervals off-road?
Yes, apply the severe-use note. Silt, water, and high revs can dirty oil by 6,000–8,000 km. The EU 10,000 km row is for tarmac touring. Paper filters are replaced, not washed. Foam filters follow the book cleaner, not petrol.
A torn airbox seal makes 10,000 km oil useless. Check the box at service. That, not Yamaha’s litre, is why T7 ownership stories go expensive.
Chain, spokes, forks
The Ténéré 700 is chain drive, typically 520. Do not set slack in mud. Wash, then millimetres. Overtight kills the rear bearing.
Spoke nipples loosen after mud. Rally / World Raid change tank, seat, and suspension, not the oil skeleton. Fork seals weep after chips. Delay them and the chrome scars.
Two-up with panniers: loaded tire line. Solo adventure tires on city pressure square the centre and pull the chain out of line.
A practical Turkey calendar
Tarmac touring at 10,000–15,000 km/year: follow 10,000 km / 12 month oil, filter by dust, valves at 40,000 km. Weekend dirt: oil at 6,000–8,000 km, glance at the filter after dusty weekends. Winter storage still hits the 12-month oil cap.
