Suzuki V-Strom 650 and GSX-S750 Maintenance Schedule
V-Strom 650 and GSX-S750: 6,000 km oil, 24,000 km valves, 10W-40 MA. Why Suzuki oil intervals are tighter than Honda and Yamaha.
Why Suzuki wants oil at 6,000 km
V-Strom 650 (DL650) and GSX-S750 manuals print oil at 1,000 km, then every 6,000 km or 12 months. A Honda Hornet says 12,000 km. A European MT-07 says 10,000 km. That is a shorter ceiling, not a worse engine. Budget it. Do not stretch the interval to “Honda 12,000.”
The GSX-S125 and GSX-R125 use the same 6,000 km language with different litres and plugs. A Burgman is a belt-and-reduction scooter, not one of the chain bikes on this page. The V-Strom 800DE is a different engine. Do not carry the 650 chart onto an 800.
Oil is 10W-40, API SF/SG or higher, JASO MA. Suzuki Super Long Life coolant is 4 years / 48,000 km. Standard coolant is 2 years / 24,000 km. Know which you poured. Mixing families makes the next change date unclear.
V-Strom 650 (3rd gen pattern)
The table runs 1 / 6 / 12 / 18 / 24 thousand km. Oil at every step. The filter is often marked replace at 1,000 km and 18,000 km (every third oil). Many owners change it every other oil. Replace the air filter at 18,000 km and inspect it in between. Replace spark plugs at 12,000 km and inspect them in between. Valves at 24,000 km, with no time clock. If the year arrives first, you still wait for the kilometres.
V-twin torque eats the chain. Two-up with luggage eats tires. On an off-road V-Strom the air filter is often dirty by the 6,000 km check. Clean the chain every 1,000 km before you oil it. Oil on mud becomes paste.
Fill is a without-filter and with-filter pair in the manual, about 2.7-3.1 L. Confirm the year. Read the sight glass with the bike upright. Reading it on the side stand is how owners decide they are “low on oil.”
GSX-S750
The same 6,000 km oil calendar. Inspect plugs at every service. Replace them often at 12,000 km. There are four plugs. Filter at 1,000 km and around 18,000 km. Valves at 24,000 km. The four-cylinder darkens oil faster than a V-Strom at high rpm. In city sport use, 5,000 km can be a practical ceiling.
The GSX-S750 is naked, so filter access is easier than on a faired GSX-R. Drain plugs and filter torque still come from the manual. HF138-class filters are common. Under-torque leaks. Over-torque cracks the housing.
Change brake fluid every 2 years. Sport tires wear the centre in town because the shoulders never get hot. Confirm 520 versus 525 in the book. Do not copy pitch from a sibling model.
GSX-R125 note
A2 125s also take oil at 6,000 km or once a year, at about 1 L. Fairing labour for plugs exists, even if it is lighter than an R25. This page’s main models are the 650 and 750. Do not pour 750 litres into a 125. Overfill is bad for seals and the clutch.
Cost
At 12,000 km a year on a V-Strom you are looking at two oils, one filter depending on the chart step, chain care, and maybe a tire. Compared with a Honda 12,000 km ceiling, Suzuki produces more oil invoices. Budget the manual. Changing the filter every oil costs more and is reasonable in dust.
Keep records
Write which coolant family you used. SLLC is 4 years. Standard is 2 years. Mixing them makes the interval unclear. You can keep records free in RPMVault garage: RPMVault motorcycle garage. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the V-Strom 650 oil interval?
First change at 1,000 km, then every 6,000 km or 12 months. Do not stretch it to Honda’s 12,000 km.
Is oil mileage the same on the GSX-S750?
Yes, the kilometre calendar is still 6,000 km. Four plugs and high rpm add cost and may shorten practice.
What is the valve interval?
24,000 km on both models is typical. There is usually no time interval. You do not open the cover just because a year passed.
Do I change the filter at every oil?
The manual often marks every third oil, for example 18,000 km. Every other oil is reasonable in dirt.
Is the V-Strom 800 the same?
No. The 800DE is a different engine. Do not copy the 650 chart.
