Ducati Monster 937 and Multistrada V4 Maintenance Intervals

Monster 937 Desmo 15,000/30,000 km, Multistrada V4 Granturismo 15,000/60,000 km. Annual service, belts, and the expensive-service myth.

Ducati service is no longer one sentence

Air-cooled Monsters stacked oil and valves near 10,000 km. The 2021-on Monster 937 uses the Testastretta 937 Desmo engine. Oil Service, the oil-and-filter visit, is due at 15,000 km or 24 months. Desmo Service, the desmodromic valve job, is due at 30,000 km. Annual Service is the yearly checklist, and it arrives every 12 months even if the kilometres are low. The Multistrada V4 Granturismo uses spring valves, not Desmo. Oil is still 15,000 km or 24 months. The valve check is 60,000 km. The Panigale V4 Desmosedici is about 12,000 km for oil and 24,000 km for Desmo. “Desmo every 10,000 km” is the wrong sentence for a 2026 garage.

The two ownership stories in Turkey are the naked Monster 937 and the adventure Multistrada V4. The Scrambler is a separate small engine. The Panigale is a separate track calendar. This article explains 937 Desmo and V4 Granturismo handbook language. Do not price those other bikes from this page.

Four Ducati stamps

Oil Service 1000 is the first oil visit, 1,000 km or 6 months from delivery. Oil Service is the repeating oil-and-filter job at 15,000 km or 24 months on the 937 and the Multistrada V4. Desmo Service or Valve Check is the valve job at 30,000 km or 60,000 km, depending on the engine. On the 937 that job is Desmo. On the Granturismo it is a spring-valve check. Annual Service is the yearly list every 12 months even if kilometres are low. DDS diagnostics, campaign software, and fault memory sit on these visits.

Skipping the annual visit because you are at 8,000 km breaks the book and most warranty readings. The 24-month oil cap is not a substitute for the yearly list. The oil may still look young. Brake fluid, chain, tires, leaks, and diagnostics still follow the calendar.

Monster 937 (including Plus)

Oil and filter are due at 1,000, 15,000, 30,000, 45,000, and 60,000 km, with a 2-year cap on top. Desmo is due at 30,000 km and 60,000 km. The cams are belt driven. Belt replacement sits on a time line, for example 5 years, and/or a kilometre line in the book. Skipping a belt costs more than a Desmo visit. A broken belt can hit valves and pistons together.

Ducati usually specifies a high-quality 15W-50, or the viscosity on the chart, that is safe for a wet clutch. Litres are in the handbook, with and without a filter. Do not assume a Japanese 10W-40 is a 937 spec match.

The 937 has a chain. Lubricate it every 500-800 km as a separate rhythm. Desmo is tank and head labour. The invoice is a multiple of an oil change. The bike feels cheap to service until 30,000 km. Then the Desmo bill arrives. Budget that visit in advance. Plus equipment does not change the oil or Desmo interval.

Multistrada V4 (Granturismo)

The V4 Granturismo uses spring valves, not Desmo. Oil Service is still 15,000 km or 24 months. The valve check is 60,000 km and has no time clock. The annual list still arrives every 12 months. That changes the touring story. There is no Desmo invoice until 60,000 km. Oil, the yearly list, tires, and the chain are still there.

The Multistrada V4 RS carries a Desmosedici. Valve work drops into the 30,000 km band. “Every V4 is 60,000 km” is false. Read the chassis code and the engine. Do not paste the Granturismo calendar onto an RS.

Adventure tires, chain, and air filter wear off the 15,000 km oil clock. Mud and gravel can dirty the air box by 5,000 km. There is no shaft drive. There is a chain. Do not bring BMW GS habits here. The 500-800 km chain rhythm still applies on a Multistrada.

Panigale and old L-twins

Panigale V2 and V4 bikes are track and high-rpm machines. In practice, oil is changed before the 15,000 km ceiling after track use. Desmo sits in the 24,000 km class. Do not price a street Monster from that calendar. Track heat shortens oil and plug life.

Pre-2015 two-valve L-twins typically want belts around 2 years and Desmo around 12,000 km. Cheap used Ducatis are often this generation. Do not apply the 937 book to them. Old belts and frequent Desmo are not the new 15,000 km oil language.

Turkey cost in practice

The yearly visit covers diagnostics, fluids, chain, tires, and inspection talk. At 15,000 km you change oil and the filter. At 30,000 km on a Monster, Desmo and the belt plan meet. On a Multistrada V4 Granturismo you have oil at 15,000 km and valves at 60,000 km. Dealer labour costs more than an independent shop. Software and campaigns usually favour the dealer.

Wrong oil, an aftermarket exhaust, and a map can move Desmo clearances and plug heat. Warranty and a check-engine light are separate risks. Flashing a map does not erase the handbook interval. If clearances walk, the labour still comes out of your pocket.

Records

Stamp Annual Service, Oil Service, and Desmo or Valve Check at separate kilometres. Do not collapse them into one “Ducati service” note. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Monster 937 oil interval?

Oil Service is due at 15,000 km or 24 months. The first Oil Service 1000 is at 1,000 km. Annual Service still arrives every 12 months. Do not skip the year because oil has a 24-month cap.

Desmo at what km?

Desmo Service is 30,000 km on the Monster 937. The Multistrada V4 Granturismo valve check is 60,000 km and is not Desmo. Panigale V4 Desmo is about 24,000 km.

Is Multistrada V4 cheap to service?

There is no Desmo until 60,000 km, so the classic Desmo myth does not fit this engine. You still have tires, chain, the annual list, and 15,000 km oil. It is not cheap. The costs sit in different years.

Does every Ducati have belts?

The 937 has cam belts. The V4 Granturismo uses chain-driven cams and has no belt interval. Read the timing-belt row in the book. Do not budget belts before you know the engine.

Can I use an old Monster book on a 937?

No. Old L-twin intervals are much tighter. Belts and Desmo arrive earlier on that generation than they do on the 937.
